Mission EDC and Workforce Solutions team up to host an IT job fair

Mission, Texas — The Mission Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), Workforce Solutions, and CyberMission, an MEDC initiative, will host an Information Technology (IT) job fair on Thursday, Aug. 11 from 2-5 p.m. at the Center for Education and Economic Development (CEED) located at 801 N. Bryan Rd. in Mission, TX.

The job fair will be open to anyone interested in securing a job in the IT field. Nearly a dozen local and national companies are expected to attend including Spectrum, DHR, Lacks, Mission Regional Hospital, UTRGV, and various staffing agencies, plus more.

“We are excited to host this job fair, which will specifically target the IT professionals in the Rio Grande Valley. “We have a variety of companies lined up, who are looking for both entry-level and seasoned talent in this growing field,” said Daniel Rivera, Director of Marketing and Programs at Mission EDC. “This will also be a great opportunity for our CyberMission cohort to connect with potential employers just as they are earning CompTIA certification.”

CyberMission is an IT initiative facilitated by the Mission EDC. The program was launched in partnership with the Texas Workforce Commission and made possible by funding through the Wagner-Peyser grant. Participants are granted free enrollment in CompTIA certification courses, which provide education, study material, and a mentor to help guide them through the assigned coursework. After completion, participants are invited to take the CompTIA certification exam to become certified in one of several IT specialties.

“The Mission EDC and the CEED continue to be a valuable resource for IT professionals and cyber programs in the Rio Grande Valley,” said Aaron Gonzalez, Business Relations Representative at Workforce Solutions. “We encourage anyone interested in a career in IT to come out and see what kind of positions are available for their skill level, and what they might require in order to advance in the field in the future.”

Companies interested in hiring IT professionals are encouraged to contact Workforce Solutions at BusinessRelations@wfsolutions.org by Aug. 9. Job seekers can contact 956-519-4300 for more information about the event.
