Mission EDC Announces Second Season of Mission Gems Series

Mission, Texas — The Mission Economic Development Corporation has announced the second season of its social media series, Mission Gems. The social media series, which debuted in August of 2021, highlights local businesses across the city of Mission and business owners’ reflections of how their businesses were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The series was first broadcast exclusively on IGTV but has since spread to other social media platforms. Episodes offer a glimpse into the lives of Mission business owners, allowing viewers to learn about the history of these Mission businesses, how staff navigated closures due to COVID-19, and how they persevered with the support of the Mission community. The series premiered with an episode featuring Your Sweets by Kacy, located on Conway Ave. To date, Mission Gems has highlighted over 10 local businesses including El Sancho Tex-Mex BBQ, Dos Chicas Boutique, Ana Liz Taqueria, Jitterz Coffee Bar, and more.

“Empowering small businesses is a major component of what we do here at the Mission EDC,” said Daniel Rivera, Director of Marketing at MEDC. “A video series dedicated to Mission’s local businesses seemed natural, as did making it exclusive to social media, where so many of us look for inspiration about where to shop, where to eat, and where to spend time with family.”

Season Two of Mission Gems is expected to premiere this summer. Rio Grande Valley residents are invited to nominate a local Mission business to be featured.

Mission EDC will be highlighting Mission Gems during National Small Business Week, taking place May 1-7. Follow Mission EDC on Instagram at @missionedctx for new episodes.
