Mission EDC to Host Inaugural ‘Tesla Takeover’ Tech Expo
MISSION, TX – The Mission Economic Development Corporation is hosting the Rio Grande Valley’s first Tesla car show and tech expo at its headquarters on Saturday, July 1, which marks the 20th anniversary of the company’s founding.
Dubbed the 2023 Tesla Takeover, the event will also mark the first time that Tesla drivers gather for a festival-style car show in South Texas.
The Takeover will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Center for Education and Economic Development, located at 801 N. Bryan Road in Mission, and will offer the latest in tech research, guest speakers, food and fun.
Mission EDC partnered with the Tesla Service Center in Brownsville, South Texas Technology Campus, Brand Geniuz and 5X5 Brewing Co. to launch the inaugural event.
Admission to the Takeover is free for the general public, but there is a $20 fee for Tesla owners who wish to showcase their vehicles.
However, the first 100 Tesla drivers to register will be given a brunch voucher, a commemorative T-shirt and a pint of 5X5’s latest brew: S3XY, an electric IPA that pays homage to Tesla’s four electric vehicle models. Brewed specifically for the event, the refreshing IPA will feature hints of citrus to balance out the hops.
Non-Tesla drivers are also encouraged to attend and enjoy high-tech exhibits, food trucks and even free rides in Tesla cars, courtesy of the Tesla Service Center in Brownsville.
“Mission EDC is proud to host this unique event that marries technology, education and our most precious resource: our workforce,” Mission EDC CEO Teclo Garcia said. “We invite Tesla drivers from across South Texas and Mexico to join us for this exciting event and to tour our beautiful CEED Building.”
Mission EDC is currently working on installing electric vehicle chargers at the CEED Building, a 55,000 square-foot facility where professionals can work, launch their business, get connected to vital resources and grab a coffee or beer.
