Mission EDC and Foldio offer 3D printing courses

MISSION, TEXAS – October 14, 2017– Mission EDC has partnered with Foldio, a Mission-based 3D printing solutions company, to offer 3D printing courses to Mission residents. The five-week course will take place on Mondays from 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. beginning on November 6, 2017.

While the course is available to a very limited number of people, those accepted will take it at no cost, and the classes will take place inside the Foldio Additive Manufacturing Lab at the CEED building.

“As 3D printers become more affordable and more businesses begin to incorporate their use into their operations, we are faced with a population that doesn’t have access to the proper training needed to handle this equipment,” said Alex Meade, Mission EDC CEO. Worldwide, 3D printing is becoming integral to manufacturing, design, as well as education and art. “Offering this class takes us a step closer to reaching our goals of creating the workforce of the 21st century,” Meade added.

This course is aimed at people who are considering using 3D printers for future personal or work projects or those who currently own a 3D printer and need help in optimizing its use. Covering topics such as product development, basics of 3D modeling, 3D scanning and printing, and printer maintenance, the class will offer engaging content appealing to a broad range of people.

“We hope this class attracts people from diverse interests, from teachers wishing to use these printers in their classrooms, to artists learning to integrate this technology into their practice, to business owners looking for new ways to create prototypes of their products,” said Ximena Alvarez, co-founder of Foldio. Alvarez’ company resides in the CEED building, where it has opened an Additive Manufacturing Lab.

“When building the lab, we imagined it not only as a place of work, but as a space where we could share the knowledge we have acquired over the years with the community. Now, this course will finally allow us to give back to the residents of Mission,” Alvarez said.
