MISSION ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION RECEIVES $3 MILLION GRANT FROM U.S. DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE
The grant will be used to create more than 300 jobs through infrastructure improvements and other local projects.
MISSION, TX, SEPTEMBER 21, 2020: The Mission Economic Development Corporation recently received a $3 million grant to aid in the improvement of the city’s infrastructure. These improvements will be made to protect the city against future natural disasters and strengthen areas that will house manufacturing operations. The announcement came from U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross.
The grant, awarded by the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA), will be used to make critical infrastructure improvements to support the growth of Mission’s Shary Village Industrial Park and surrounding areas. In addition to creating over 300 jobs for residents, the grant, matched by a $750,000 local investment, is expected to spur more than $57 million in private investment.
“It’s been a tough year in terms of COVID-19 and the harsh impact it has had on our community,” said Daniel Silva, CEO of the Mission EDC. “With this grant, we’ll be able to get hundreds of locals back to work while making improvements to our city’s south side. This project will be of great benefit not just to our residents, but to those hoping to do business within the city of Mission, as well.”
Projects will include drainage, electricity, and roadway improvements, as well as other updates to the city’s south side. This area of Mission will house the upcoming Killem Development, a highly anticipated addition to the city’s industrial zones.
“Manufacturing plays a vital role in our city’s economy,” said Silva. “We’re thankful that the U.S. Department of Commerce and the Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council helped make this possible.”
The Mission EDC is responsible for the oversight of projects pertaining to the economic growth of the city. For more information about the Mission EDC and U.S. Department of Commerce grant, please contact the city of Mission Media Relations department.
