MCISD Seeing Only 1’s and 0’s During Computer Science Education Week
Computers are everywhere, changing every industry on the planet, and MCISD students are ready to join in the revolution with an Hour of Code.
Mission, Texas, December 1, 2016– Mission CISD and Mission EDC are again working together to promote technology education during Computer Science Education Week, December 5-11. Students throughout the district are participating in an Hour of Code, a global movement that exposes students to basic coding through fun and engaging activities. Students learn to create the behind-the-scenes of the technology they use every day, including computers, video games and phone apps.
On Tuesday, December 6, elementary students will visit the Center for Education and Economic Development (CEED) throughout the day to practice coding in the Mission EDC facilities designed to promote the development of a 21st Century ready workforce. Students will also meet with Miguel Cruz, who is a CEED entrepreneur establishing his videogame development company, Cruise Control.
Code the Town is a Mission EDC initiative made possible through community partner Sylvan Learning of the Rio Grande Valley. The Hour of Code, organized by the nonprofit Code.org and over 100 others, is a global movement that believes the students of today are ready to learn critical skills for 21st century success.
Mission CISD incorporated STEM initiatives beginning in the elementary grades that can be natural leads into the district’s official Texas-STEM Academy, the only Career-Tech Early College High School program in western Hidalgo County, Mission Collegiate High School, or other programs that provide for high school and college credits. Schools will participate in an Hour of Code during the week and this year, even Central Office staff will join in the movement.
