Mission EDC, Code RGV Graduate Coding Boot Camp Students with Help of $75,000 Texas Workforce Commission Training Grant
MISSION, Texas, Nov. 15, 2016 –The Mission Economic Development Corporation, Workforce Solutions and Code RGV have successfully completed its 2016 Coding Boot Camp with a ceremony marking the end of the three-month course for nine coding students.
The course was offered and sponsored by the Mission EDC, taught by Code RGV personnel and was funded in part by the Texas Workforce Commission. The Workforce Commission’s High Demand Job Training $75,000 grant helped fund the program that consisted of pre-work job readiness and educated participants in computer coding.
The first cohort of students, after the rigorous prep, code and job readiness training, were certified in Full Stack Web Development – a high-demand career in Texas. The aim is to place students in high-demand high-pay occupations as programmers. The students were selected out of 425 applicants, equipped with laptops and supplied meals during the course.
Training took place at Mission EDC offices up to 12 hours a day five days a week and ended in October. Students selected were awarded a monthly financial stipend and received a bonus stipend for finishing the program.
